Minutes for the 106th TRTMC Meeting (1st May, 2021)

12 members, including A-san from South Africa, attended this online meeting. There were no guests in attendance.

After opening the meeting, we moved straight onto the confirmation of new officers’ roles. Everyone committed to doing their best in their roles over the next 12 months. There were no objections. T-san was confirmed as the new president of the club.

The TMOE, AB-san, was then introduced, and kicked off the speaking sessions of the meeting on a positive note, celebrating the start of Golden Week for members in Japan.

The Word of the Evening role taker, A-san, introduced “historical/歴史的” as the word for the meeting.

The Timer, L-san, committed to checking the time strictly during the meeting.

We moved quickly through the remaining role introductions. The TMOE doubled up as Vote Counter.

The Ah-counter, U-san, reminded us to watch out for those sneaky filler words in our speeches.

The Grammarian, Ts-san, then gave a quick explanation of their role.

The General Evaluator, C-san, doubled up on roles too, facilitating the Rainbow Moment of the Week session, during which members spoke about, among other topics, community, speech contests, cosmetic stores and cats, which the TMOE was very excited about.

We skipped the 5-minute LGBTQ lecture, as there was no one to fill that particular role, and moved on to the prepared speech session. Two speakers were eligible for votes, and one contest speech was shared with us again as a special bonus, at the end. All of the speeches were thought provoking.

After a five-minute intermission, we moved onto the Table Topics session, which was led by G-san, with the theme of “change”, in work, challenges, seasons, new creative ways to enjoy Golden Week during the State of Emergency, and so on.

During the General Evaluation, C-san gave feedback to the two evaluators (the third contest speech was not evaluated), asked for reports from the various role takers, and then, after brief comments on the meeting as a whole, handed back to the TMOE for the presentation of the awards (for Best Speaker, Best Evaluator and Best Table Topics Speaker).

Some roles were decided for the next meeting. We finished on time, with everyone wished a safe and relaxing Golden Week!
